The worst enemies of EVO oil are: oxygen, hot temperature and light rays. Even if you buy the best winning – competition olive oil and do not conserve it properly, it will only take days for the oil to loose its health properties, unique taste and aroma.

Olive oil tin can or a glass bottle

In short, both are OK as long as glass is very dark. A bottle is always more elegant, a tin is more rustic style. But there is more to know to make a good choice.

  1. Dark glass is as good as a tin to protect the oil from the light. However, the darker the glass – the better. An honest producer of EVO oil will never put his product in a light glass.

  1. Never, never should the bottle for the olive oil be plastic. Plastic is not only useless against the light rays, but it also changes the taste of the oil rather quickly.

  1. A tin is cheaper to produce than a bottle, it also weighs less and thus cheaper to transport. So, the same amount of the same product will usually be more economic in a tin than in a bottle.

  1. While it is smart to save on quantity, the idea to save on a quantity of olive oil in a tin can play a bad joke against you. As soon as the tin is opened, the oxygen starts getting inside. More often you open it, more oxygen is there, deteorating the quality of the oil. The aroma of the oil in the opened bottle or tin disappears after some time. From this prospective if you don’t consume a certain quantity in a week or two, it is better to have smaller unopened containers. In this case a bottle of a smaller size may be better.

Whatever you choose, a tin or a bottle, make sure to keep it in a cool dark place outside of the fridge, and seal it well when not in use.

Let the olive oil be your remedy and cure for long life to be!
